Squash and Squash Bugs

Just showing off our kind of Square Foot Garden. We didn't follow the rules accurately, but it doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. Our boxes are 10 x 4 feet instead of 4 x 4 feet, and we didn't make a permanent grid yet. We planned on it, but didn't get around to it and now probably won't. Everything seems to be doing really well.

One of the yellow summer squash plants was looking a little poorly, and on Sara's inspection was found to have squash bugs. We hurried and read up on the awful looking things and found that we should just squash them. So Sara did! We already have little squash coming so we hope we got the bugs in time. I did remember after the bugs came the reason Rod stopped growing squash. If you don't have squash plants, you probably won't have squash bugs!

The tomatoes are trying to grow up the netting, but aren't quite big enough yet. We do have little green tomatoes already. We have eaten a little spinach and could eat beet greens if any of us really wanted to eat them and someone was willing to cook them.
