Loud and Sparkley

After two days of celebrating we were ready for naps on Sunday afternoon. Friday evening we had a neighborhood party in the intersection in front of Sara's house. Fifty families had been invited for treats and fireworks. We didn't have all fifty familes there, but at one time I counted seventy people and more came later. Amy came in time for the festivities and stayed until Sunday evening. Lucy did not appreciation the celebrating. She didn't like the fireworks and even had her fill of people. Luke and the neighbor kids were out until 10:30 riding their scooters and running around. Our neighbors in the back (they run the Mongollian Grill) even came out to see what was going on. Their son, Kevin came out with us and had a great time. He is even calling me "grandma" like the rest of the kids do.

Saturday, Amy, Sara, Luke and I went to Center street in Provo to see what was happening. Luke went on one of the big blow up slides a few times and we got a snow cone , I spilled it on my shirt so we could go home. Besides it was just too hot to enjoy any more.

Carrie and the kids came later and we had a barbecue with Sara's nieghbors to the East, the Urrs. Scott, Anne and Ethan. We had way too much food as usual, but it was good. We even had enough squash from the garden to enjoy. Not me, of course. I did have new beans from the garden for Sunday dinner. They were great. Sean came over after the rafting finished up. They had a good day, about 800 people went down the river. The weather was nice until time to light the fireworks and we were afraid it was going to rain, so we started a little early.

Reese, Hayden (neighbor friend) and Luke trying to out shout the fireworks!

It wasn't quite the same as the Fourth in Delta, but it was fun. Anne even brought us some salt water taffy so we wouldn't feel left out. I just about have all my favorite flavors eaten.

Swimming Lessons!

I started the day early this morning with a bike ride down to the railroad tracks and back. I love my new bike! The air was still plenty cool and not too many people were up and about. That makes for good bike riding time. I don't like to worry about cars coming up behind me, not just for the safety thing, but I am sure it is not a very pretty sight. And yes, I do have a helmet. Surprisingly I enjoy wearing it. You don't have to worry about your hair blowing in your face. It feels safe for some reason. It doesn't match my bike, however. I might have to paint it yellow and put little orange and green flowers on it, but then I would have to buy some of those biking clothes that match...so maybe I will just stick with the silver and pink helmet.
Luke started swimming lessons this morning. He was very excited and a little nervous. It makes everything easier though when you go with your best buds. The pool is very nice, the classes are very small and his teacher was a cute young girl, so it was good.
The three amigos, Cam, Kai and Luke after their first swimming lesson.
Luke has come a long way since his "no waddy, no waddy" days. He was willing to get right in the pool. Doctor orders said he shouldn't put his head under the water. His band-aid came off about half way through and we had to replace it, but other than that he had a good time.

Luke is the proud owner of four stitches!

I have always know that I don't do well in emergency rooms. Today was no different. I was the one with the note from Sara saying that I had her permission to take Luke to the doctor so after we had the bleeding under control some and we could see that he probably needed a couple stitches, I took him to the neighborhood InstaCare. I should have had Rod come with me. Luke didn't shed one tear, but you know who did!

Luke was standing too close to his friend Kai when Kai decided to take a swing at a Tball standard. I don't think Luke will do that again! The whack! was really loud and when I turned to see what had happened, Luke was already running to me with blood running down his face. It split his eyebrow open enough for four stitches. The only time he made any fuss was when they put the needle right into his cut to deaden it. During the acutally sewing he never made a sound. I on the other hand, had to use two kleenex!
The nurses put this guaze on his cut with some kind of numbing stuff. Luke could see it out of the corner of his eye and didn't know what it was. He giggled and thought it felt funny. I had to take a picture so he could see what was on his head.
When Sara got home to admire his stitches, she called them "manly" stitches and Luke nodded and said yup.. they're blue!
